Academic profile
Full-time professor in Humanities and Literary Studies at Universidad de Bogotá Jorge Tadeo Lozano. His research concerns meaning-making and its relations with action, cognition and reasoning.
He has developed the Agentive Semiotics approach and studies abduction, induction and Charles S. Peirce’s pragmatism. Current work on agentive semantics and narrativity examines how agents organize and revise event models. Questions about agency, social reality and epistemic regulation form another line of this program.
Education
He completed his education at Universidad Nacional de Colombia: a medical degree (Médico-Cirujano, 1996), a master’s degree in Philosophy (2000) and a PhD in Philosophy (2008).
His master’s thesis, “El enfermar como Semiosis”, examined problems of medical practice from a logical and semiotic perspective. His doctoral thesis, “Abducting Abduction. Avatares de la comprensión de la abducción de Charles S. Peirce”, received the university’s laureate distinction.
Teaching
His teaching focuses on agentive and cognitive semiotics, across their different scopes and applications at undergraduate level, and on social theories at graduate level.
